Fang Island describe their music as “everyone high-fiving everyone” – and that’s pretty much how it sounds. Imagine Animal Collective for punks, with little aggression and lots of distortion. Heavy riffs with Super-Mario melodies and very creative song structures, these guys put on a great display of energetic musicianship.

To show off their soft side, you have to watch this “concert” in a kindergarten. Possibly the cutest concert I’ve ever seen:

It’s pretty hard to find good videos, however their online store offers an incredibly easy embedding option, so take a listen:

I find the video for ‘Daisy’ really creepy. It’s so odd that while watching it I totally forgot to listen to the music.

This video is less creepy- it’s more like a very long yet successful montage.

Fang Island’s music is like a red bull-espresso cocktail with a few drags of a joint and a line of MDMA as a chaser. The newest album, “Fang Island”, was released this Tuesday (23rd Feb), and it’s quite a step up from their previous albums, especially in terms of recording and production. I would recommend this for road-trips and power-trips.

buh-bye now,
